The HUNT Guides

The HUNT Guides are the evolution of the Eat.Shop Guides that began life in Portland in 2003. These guides briefly went through a Rather Guides phase in 2011, but in early 2012, with a focus on expanding internationally, I acquired the guides, re-branded and refreshed the look, built a new team around them, and The HUNT Guides were reborn.

The guides became part of the Gatehouse Publishing family and continue to support the most wonderful and unique locally and passionately owned businesses around the world. The HUNT Guides is proud to showcase cities spanning the globe.

In 2013, over a fabulous Japanese dinner with friends in Frankfurt, Germany, a conversation began that wouldn't end until 2016. During multiple toasts of sake, one person asked 'Why hasn't anyone created a book about sake that tells the real story of this amazing alcohol?'. No one had an answer. It seemed incredulous that few had tried to pursue the backstory of sake in published form. But the truth remained. Over the course of the dinner, we discussed what the ultimate sake book would contain. And by the end of the meal, I agreed to make it.


I brought on Elliot Faber, one of the most talented Japanese alcohol experts in Asia. Together we brought on Hayato Hishinuma, one of the best people I know and certainly an expert in all things Japan. We brought on Jason Lang, a renowned documentary photographer, who put his blood, sweat and tears into this project. Miwako Suzuki, Gatehouse's art director joined the team and together, along with the entire staff of Gatehouse Publishing we got cracking.


During the Spring of 2014, I took a team to Japan for three weeks (Elliot, Hayato, Jason, Miwako and myself) to collect content on the world's most historic, generational sake breweries. We toured 75 breweries which we include in this epic book. It was a herculean effort on everyone's part. But what we've created should stand the test of time. It was an honor to work with this team. 乾杯!

Movember Guides


Product ideation and production of a bespoke travel guide series distributed during their annual November cancer awareness drive. Our team curated lifestyle content in London, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Auckland, New York City, Singapore, Sydney and Wellington in line with Movember's brand. We then designed eight city guides that were distributed globally.

Perfection In Imperfection

Perfection in Perfection was a passion project by Chef Janice Wong. This project has won numerous awards and accolades over the years since it was published. Gatehouse was proud to be the publisher of this fabulous look into the mind of a creative artist.


Chef Janice Wong’s never-ending passion for culinary art has propelled her forward to test the limits of dessert making. The native Singaporean has learned from some of the world’s best chefs, including US luminaries Thomas Keller and Grant Achatz, virtuoso Spanish chocolatier Oriol Balaguer, and prodigious French pastry chef Pierre Hermé. An undisputed favourite among sweet-toothed Singaporeans, her dessert restaurant 2am:dessertbar has redefined the dessert experience, pushing the boundaries between sweet and savory, with carefully researched progressive dishes. In November 2014 she also launched her eponymous sweet concept, JANICE WONG. Chef Janice has received worldwide recognition for her cutting-edge creations and is a regular on the global pop-up circuit—proof that 2am:dessertbar is more than just a sugar rush. She has recently been named Asia’s Best Pastry Chef; for the second year running by the prestigious San Pellegrino Asia’s 50 Best for 2013 & 2014.

Dim Sum

When prodigious Singaporean pastry chef Janice Wong was approached by Miele International about a new book to launch with their steamer oven, she turned to me to produce a masterpiece book on modernist dim sum. Using flour as the launching pad to take a deep dive into the ancient art of dim sum, we produced an award winning culinary book that should be on every chef who inspires to create art. We brought on passionate photographers and an entire team of talented editors and chefs to bring this project to life.
